My first memories was riding a tricycle playing with my brother and sisters. I think
we are about 1,5, 6,9,10 years old, me I'm 6 and for the longest time it was just my
mom an us my dad was station in Vietnam we were in the U.S. Navy living on base.
My mom had told us your dad coming home after two years. We were kids
we don't know anything about a dad, he had been gone so long you know, I'm 6
years old two year is half my life we did even remember what he look like beside the
picture my mom has on the side of her bed. What was war people being kill or losing
arms, legs, we're just playing have a good time. I remember there were rock we use
to lick they taste like salt. I was in kindergarten I remember playing out side for lunch
and every now and then the kids mom would come crying and get them, I'd never
see them again. Sometime I would hear my mom crying at night. I would go look at
her she never know I was there. I did think any thing was wrong because we were
still in school we had our own towel for nap time an I loved snack time a little thing
of milk and gram crackers, I'd dip them in milk playing with G.I Joe, playing war but I
didn't know what war means.
Well one day as were all playing in the fount yard, I remember this man came to our
trailer, my mom was crying hugging him kissing him saying kids is your dad is your
dad come here. We all just looked we had to clue who he was we did'nt run and give
him hugs and kisses we just look, like time had stop. We walk over and let him give
us a hug. I remember a lot of people came over that night we were peeking out our
bedroom they were laughing and drinking ever body was happy it was like
Christmas. We were happy because we were up late. I fell asleep on the floor
watching the party. I remember thinking this is a good thing having a dad because
my mom is happier then I've ever remember seeing her. Some days went bye, on
our way to school my sister ask my mom when is he going to leave we just look at
her we were scared, my mom said he not leaving, he your dad and our family was
happy for along time until next short story
